Block 3: Ignite Your Passion

After having read this blog post, leave commentary explaining which way to ignite your passion works best for you.  Explain it in a solid paragraph.

  1. #6 is what I strive for. It doesn't do me a lot of good to stay inside my comfort zone, especially as a teacher. If you were to come back and take this course two years from now, it probably won't resemble this all that much. Why? I am always trying to add new things and stay relevant in what impacts students.

When I teach technology sessions to other teachers, whether teachers in TRF or summer courses for teachers from around the area, they are terrified of social media. They don't engage with students on Twitter, Instagram, or Blogger.

I can see their concerns, but I like this saying I saw on Twitter a few weeks ago, "We are expected to engage and interact with our students when they are in our class, so why should it be any different with social media?" Yet, this is too big of a leap for a lot of teachers. They are happy inside their little comfort zones. I am not. And using technology, especially social media, has totally changed how I teach. Now the trick, though, is to find new ways to step outside my comfort zone.

  2. Grant Stewart #1: Surrounding yourself with other people who enjoy the same thing you do just as much if not more. Being around people who love what they do like you do not only pushes yourself to be the best you can be but also your co-workers push themselves because they see how much time and effort your putting into it. Surrounding yourself with people who enjoy what they do as much as you can do nothing but help you and will bring out the best in you I think

  3. # 1 Surround Yourself With Passionate People. Passion and the drive to succeed really is contagious. Being surrounded by people that can help ignite your passion can improve your own outlook on your life goals. Making connections with those who have found their passion is quite simple. Once you have the support from others you become determined to follow your passion. Support comes in many different forms and gives you the confidence to reach out of your comfort zone. In addition, being surrounded with passionate people it becomes easier to share ideas and not only imagine but take action on making the impossible, possible.

  4. #1 is the one that gets me the most. You need to surround your life with positive people and positive influences. If you surround yourself with those types of people, you will find yourself working harder and being more positive in your life. If you are never around positive people all you will see is the negativity and never look at things in different ways. Also, you happiness will play a roll; When you are around positive people they you will have a burst of energy and motivation. Where negative people will make you see only the worse opportunities.

Positive friends, family, teammates, classmates, teachers, and coaches all have a big influence on your life. If they are negative it will just suck the energy right out of you and make not want to try. I think surrounded yourself with positive people will change the way you look at the world.

  5. #1 is something that my life revolves around. This has its greatest impact in my life on sports. As a team you all share the same goal whatever it is. Most teams all want to win the section championship then move on to play in state. I have realized the closer a team is the better shot you have at doing this and having people like this around me pushes me to be my best. I hold my teammates accountable and as they do to me.

Even in Cenex I have noticed this. Not that I want to spend the rest of my life at Cenex and neither do my co-workers. Although, if you both enjoy impressing your boss and enjoying doing little jobs that impress them the satisfaction of going to work is a lot better. I always try and keep in mind How I would want to be remembered? If people remember me for being passionate and being a hard worker I will be satisfied. Hopefully, that can open more doors for me down the road.

  6. #1 Surround yourself with passionate people. I have had so much experience with this with sports. Everyone there all is passionate about what we are doing and just being in the same atmosphere as them makes you fired up. It makes you feel like you are getting things done and definitely feel like your in your element.

Things such as again sports, jobs, and even just little side things make me want to work harder because I've been blessed to be surrounded by a lot of passionate people. It makes me feel more accountable for what I am doing because if they are showing how passionate they are by working hard and getting everything done then so should I.

  7. #7 Is probably the one that I can relate to the most. Being crowded you often are so caught up in what's going on around you that you don't really have time to drink it all in or even really be paying attention or thinking. We are a generation of multitaskers which is an important skill but doesn't give us much room to focus on just one thing or to be doing one simple activity that makes us happy.

I think it's important to make time for yourself and to distance yourself for a little while each day, it helps clear your mind and you can focus better on doing that thing that makes you happy and you can enjoy being in your Element more. Creating space allows me to forget about anything negative going on or how much homework I have or papers to write and I can clear my head and focus better without all the distractions going on around me constantly. Creativity comes when your mind is free and I think that's probably one of the most important lessons I have learned.

  8. 3. Help someone in a way only you can. We all have natural strengths and talents that can dramatically help those around us. What comes easy for you is no doubt challenging for others. We tend to take these for granted, often hardly noticing our own gifts, and rarely share them with others. Passion comes from using those on a routine basis. Ask yourself, What do people thank you for? What do people routinely ask for your help with? Most people’s passions help others in one way or another. Perhaps for you it’s knitting, teaching children math, cooking a good meal or leading a yoga class. Devote time each day to sharing your talents.

I just recently started noticing that I get thanked most for listening to peoples problems and offering proactive solutions to them. It doesn't seem like a big deal to me and most of the time I just assume everyone listens as much as I do. I think thats one of the best ways you can tell if you are in your element. If what you love doing become almost a second nature for you while other people are struggling with it, I'd say you have found your element, or are close to finding it.

  9. Scare yourself, I love the quote; Life begins at the end of your comfort zone. My mother has always had me go out of my way to help someone out or do something that I wasn't 100% comfortable with. When I was younger she made me call for hotel reservations just because she knew doing those things would challenge me a little bit. The part about doing things that are not in your comfort zone is like the exert said, the goose bump feeling. Things can either go really good or really bad and when it goes bad you learn from it. If it goes good you will be comfortable next time and it will go even smoother. You have to learn to be vulnerable in order to want to put yourself out there, you never know what is going to happen.

  10. I can best relate to #8: Learn something new. When I have a spark of interest in something and start to study it and learn a lot about it I fall in love with it. Or maybe I just love learning new things? I could sit at my computer for hours on google or youtube learning more about things I am interested in. I love to learn more about things I love to do, Its like I want to know everything there is to know about the topic or hobby so that I can be the best I can be at it.
My favorite thing I read about this is "We have to fuel what excites us" I totally agree with this. If we keep fueling what we are interested in, the fire/passion will grow bigger and we will probably end up surprising ourselves with how passionate we can be about it.

  11. I think the best one on the list for me is number 5 - Challenge the norm. I really don't stay in the box very well. I dress how I feel that day and don't care if someone who doesn't really know me doesn't like it. I ask a lot of questions when I don't get why my friends are going to do something. Right now for colleges I have to choose the best one for me not anyone else's. For those reasons I think 5 fits me best.

  12. Challenging the norm would be my top priority. It also goes hand in hand with leaving your comfort zone. The “norm” would be included in most people’s comfort zone. You should be challenging your own comfort zone, asking yourself why this is your norm. You have to change yourself before you can accomplish anything else, otherwise you’d have done it already.

No successful people got anywhere without challenging the norm. You have to change something in order to make an impact, otherwise no one will even take a second look at your ideas. And they shouldn’t. Thinking outside of the box is a crucial part of todays society.

  13. I think number 8 is one that like. I enjoy learning something interesting everyday. I am always looking up words and information to find out what it is or what it means. Learning something everyday is fun to me.

  14. #6. Scare yourself - Live outside your comfort zone. Everyday I try to do something outside of my comfort zone. Doing this will really help you grow as a person, and may give you opportunities that you wouldn't have had if you didn't step out of your comfort zone. Like Dr. Marler once said, "If you want something you've never had, you must be willing to do something you've never done."

  15. #1 Surround yourself with passionate people. That is one thing that has a huge affect on me. If I am around negative people who see no good in anything, I am likely to feel the same way as they do. The people that we choose to surround ourselves with directly affect igniting our passions. Its hard to find something you love to do around people who have no passion.

  16. #1: Surround yourself with passionate people. This is huge in sports. If you have a team of guys who absolutely hate the sport, you will eventually start to hate it too even if you love it deep down. But if you have a team of dedicated individuals who all love the sport, you will find that your passion will come out. This also applies with jobs. You could have the greatest job in the world, but if you have people working with you who hate it, you will not think that it is the best anymore.
